Universal Avionics complete SkyVis H215 flight tests

Universal Avionics has revealed that it, in partnership with Heli-One and the Bundespolizei (BPOL) have completed flight testing of the SkyVis helmet mounted display (HMD) on the H215 with the goal of obtaining an EASA STC which will allow the use of the on the BPOLs Airbus H215s (AS332L1es). Once achieved it will make it the first HMD to be approved for use on a civilian aircraft.

The SkyVis suite uses a monocle-type display for primary flight information for daytime operations, but it can also be combined with night vision goggles (NVG) for night ops. In either mode the company says the system reduces pilot workload in demanding operation modes and keeps the focus “outside the cockpit”. This it says will help BPOL “improve situational awareness, safety and mission completion rates”

Following the completion of the flight test series Universal Avionics says it is on track for granting of the STC by the end of the year.
