Lilium has begun the assembly of the first prototype of its Lilium Jet in Wessling with the arrival of the first fuselage, which will now be mated to the canards and wings as first steps toward completion and, of course, roll out and first flight.

The company calls it a watershed moment as it moves from the design phase to the industrialisation of the aircraft. Commenting, Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium, said: “To see the first aircraft fuselage on the final assembly line ready to join up with the canard and wings is a proud moment for everyone involved in our mission to make aviation sustainable. We firmly believe the Lilium Jet will usher in a new era of sustainable regional mobility, offering the highest safety standards, as well as superior comfort, unit economics and customer experience.”

Lilium’s share price rallied on the NASDAQ in the wake of the news, giving it a margin over the troubling US$ 1 limit required to maintain listing on the exchange.
