German eVTOL developer Lilium, is courting the French government for subsidies and loan guarantees valued at up to EUR€400 million. It was announced at the Choose France event in Versailles yesterday (13 May). The developer said that it is “in advanced talks” with the French government that could see it moving the eventual production of the Lilium Jet to France. Lilium said that it is looking at a number of location options for the future facility including the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The company said that the production facility could “create up to 850 direct jobs”.
The announcement comes within weeks of a bid to secure loan guarantees from the Bavarian state, and by extension, Federal German governments appear to have failed. A point Lilium made plain in its announcement when it spoke of a “supportive government environment” as one of the key reasons for a French production capability. According to Lilium, the talks are expected to reach a conclusion “within weeks”.
