Lilium has announced that it has selected FlightSafety International (FSI) as its exclusive simulation training partner for the Lilium Jet eVTOL.

The agreement calls for FlightSafety to build flight training devices and mixed reality simulators as well as a simulator representative of the Lilium Jet (e-Sim)  for use by the company’s engineers at its systems integration laboratory (SiLab).

Prompting questions of chickens and eggs and computer modelling versus flight validation, Lilium says the e-Sim will be an important part of the development programme, not only allowing for pilot familiarisation before the start of flight testing but also supporting type certification of the aircraft through means of compliance demonstrations.

In addition to the simulation equipment, the agreement also calls on FlightSafety to develop and deliver training programmes, including online training programme modules, for the qualification of future Lilium pilots and mechanics worldwide.

FSI continues to support the emerging Advance Air Mobility (AAM) market with technology enabling distance-learning training curriculums and advances in training device manufacturing.

Sebastien Borel, Lilium’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “This partnership represents another critical milestone that will support the Lilium Jet’s progress through certification and commercial launch. Thanks to FSI’s vast experience and expertise in the field of aircraft simulators, we look forward to enabling all Lilium pilots to get familiar with our aircraft before commercial launch.”
