Laminar de Ice (LDI), a Villinger company, is making its debut at this year’s EUROPEAN ROTORS with its range of rotorcraft ice protection systems.

In addition to its lower complexity design, LDI’s Tail Rotor De-Ice Protection systems and Rotor Blade Ice Protection systems are designed to make de-icing systems lighter with less electrical power consumption and clean aerodynamics.

“This was always the showstopper,” said Markus Villinger, CEO. “So far, for helicopters, it is conventional [for de-icing systems] to be too complex and take too much energy, but now it is much lighter.”

LDI is also showcasing its Rotor Ice Shed Protection system (RISP), designed to target the external damage caused by the kinetic impact of debonding ice on rotating rotors by breaking up delaminated large pieces of ice into smaller, harmless pieces at the tip of the rotor.
