Airwolf Aerospace has received FAA STC approval for the installation of True Blue Power® TB17 Lithium-ion batteries for five makes and 10 helicopter models. FAA STC SR04637CH allows the installation of Airwolf’s Li-ion kits in Airbus H120/EC120 H125/AS350, AS355, H130/EC130, Bell 206a/B, 206L1/L2/L3/L4, Enstrom 480B, Hiller UH-12E and MD500.
The Airwolf kits come complete with battery, mounting hardware and Airwolf annunciator and are easy to install with no significant modifications to the aircraft required. For AS350s, the STC allows installation of the battery in the baggage compartment, the large door tail cone, and the small door aft tail cone positions.
According to Airwolf, the True Blue Power® TB17 Lithium-ion battery provides significant advantages over existing alternatives, including a 63% reduction in weight compared with earlier batteries, a higher voltage, which leads to faster and cooler engine starts, an average life of eight years, as well as reduced maintenance.
