Norwegian energy company Equinor has awarded Lufttransport RW AS a five-year contract to operate two new search and rescue helicopters (SAR) for the Troll and Oseberg fields. In addition to the initial five-year term, there is an option for an extension for a further five years

The contract will be supported using two Leonardo AW139s, which will be transferred to Lufttransport in Q2 next year ahead of the start of the contract in 2026. One of the AW139s will be based at the three-platform Oseberg field centre in the North Sea. Meanwhile, the other aircraft, which will act as a backup, will be based at Flesland and also be used to supplement the two S-92s employed on passenger transport to and from Equinor platforms and facilities. In addition to providing emergency preparedness, the aircraft will also be available for emergency support along the entire coast beyond those linked to the energy sector.

“This contract strengthens our resilience and ensures increased helicopter capacity. Lufttransport RW AS is a Norwegian-owned company based in Tromsø with extensive experience operating both search and rescue helicopters and transport helicopters. We look forward to working with them,” said  Ørjan Kvelvane, Equinor’s Senior Vice President for Joint Operations Support.
