FIA2022 News – AW609 certification really close says Profumo

In his briefing this afternoon, Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo assured the media that certification of the AW609 is now “really close” and underlined the company’s intention to focus of the entry to production of the 609 before getting involved in a future project.

In the same briefing he declined to say if the future of the company’s production facility in Yeovil was tied to Leonardo’s NMH bid being successful but he did allow that in the event of a successful bid production of the AW189 would move to the UK from Italy.

At a press briefing this lunchtime, Leonardo revealed that Helitune has joined a number of other UK companies as part of Team AW149 UK. Helitune joins more than 70 companies from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland that form the onshore Team AW149 UK supply chain for Leonardo’s latest-generation AW149 helicopter, which is being put forward for the UK’s New Medium Helicopter requirement.

Leonardo and Helitune have been working together for more than two decades across the OEMs platforms. Helitune has a proven track record within the arena of vibration health monitoring solutions and specialises in the design and manufacture of electronic systems for rotor track and balance (RTB). The optical rotor tracking device “RT-TipTrak” of Helitune spans the Leonardo helicopters portfolio from the AW149, AW189, AW139 to the AW169. The RT-TipTrak cutting-edge technology monitors the individual blade heights and spacing to milimetre precision during flight, enabling the reduction of vibration, minimising stress and strain on the airframe. Commenting on the announcement Raf Lobato, CEO of CMTG, said: “Helitune has been working in collaboration with Leonardo Helicopters for over 25 years and, as a UK Company, we are delighted to be able to continue to support them as they look to develop their onshore supply chain for the AW149 helicopter”.

Japan’s Aero Facility Co first representatives of “new’ Enstrom

Enstrom have signed the first representative for sales since the company’s emergence from Chapter 7 bankruptcy in May. Aero Facility Co. the long-term Japanese sales and support agent for the previous iteration of Enstrom has been signed on to continue as the company’s representative in Japan. Aero Facility has been instrumental in supporting the Japan Self Defence Force’s fleet of TH-480B training helicopters.

Commenting on the announcement Dennis Martin, Enstrom VP of Sales &Marketing said “It was an easy decision. Our number one priority is supporting the existing fleet. Aero Facility has done a fantastic job keeping our customers in Japan flying, and we knew we had to get them on a contract right away so that they could continue that support.” According to Enstrom’s VP of Product Support, Doug Smith, Aero facility already has parts on order. “They are a consistent leader in parts sales. They have shown Enstrom a lot of loyalty, and we are pleased to be able to return that.”

NHV Group celebrate 25th anniversary

To celebrate its silver jubilee Nordsee Helikopters Vlaanderan (NHV) held an event for its employees and their families across its nine bases in Europe and West Africa the day included entertainment for the children, dinner and awards as well as a Teams presentation from the Company’s Executive committee. Since it’s 1997 establishment, the company has expanded its operations across two continents and fleet of 40 aircraft with includes 12 H175s for which,  it was the launch customer, 4 AW169s, 7 x AW139s, 12 AS365s, 3 EC145s, 4 H145s and 2 MD900s. While the bulk of the company’s business remains in offshore support, also has Maritime services contracts including Harbour Pilot and SAR operations. NHV is an approved training organisation (ATO) offering a wide range professional type and as well as instrument ratings and an official service centre for our partner, Airbus Helicopters. Besides maintenance of its own fleet the company also provides MRO solutions to a to a variety of civil and military clients.

Bell sign orders for seven Bell 505s for European customers

Bell have today announced the sale of seven 505 helicopters. Two of the aircraft will be going to JB Investments Poland’s longest established aircraft distributor. While the remaining five aircraft are bound for an undisclosed customer in Europe. Commenting on the announcement Duncan van de Velde, Bell’s Managing Director Europe said “The Bell 505 has become a popular aircraft for European operators within the corporate and VIP markets due to its advanced avionics, customizable cabin, and versatility, which make it easy for a weekend getaway or quick business trip,” We are proud to see the success of the Bell 505, and we look forward to adding more European customers to the Bell family.”
“We are thrilled to see the growing interest for Bell products among our Polish customers,” added Magdalena Karska of JB Investments. “Thanks to unique capabilities in its class, we see great potential for the Bell 505 model to be operated not only by corporate but also governmental customers in Poland.”

LCI pick up 19 aircraft in deal valued at USD115m

Libra Group subsidiary LCI has announced that it has acquired 19 helicopters from a consortium led by Lobo Leasing together with its partners RIVE private investment and Turning Rock Partners. The deal values the portfolio at USD115m. While the details of the make-up of the portfolio remains under wraps, RotorHub can reveal the lion’s share of the portfolio is made up of AW139s but also includes  S-92s, S-76C+s, B-206s, and AS332L1s.

 All the aircraft included in the deal are presently on lease with eight of the helicopters in South America while the remainder are placed with lessors in Europe and Africa and brings the total number of countries served by LCI assets to 28. Commenting on the deal Jaspal Jandu, CEO of LCI, said: “This portfolio acquisition is another major step in LCI’s strategic plan and reflects our confidence in the helicopter market. Our team and partners have performed strongly, and the assets will be seamlessly incorporated onto our leasing platform, driving further efficiencies of scale.”

Meanwhile,George Logothetis, Chairman and CEO of LCI’s parent company, the Libra Group, added: “The continued expansion of LCI’s fleet represents another strategic and forward-looking investment by the company. LCI continually works to demonstrate foresight and agility in meeting customer needs, with a nimble and future-focused approach that reflects the ethos of all across our Group.”
