Bristow Ireland, a subsidiary of Bristow Group, has reached an agreement with Unite the Union ahead of its transition to the next Irish Coast Guard Search and Rescue (SAR) contract. Bristow is prepared to transition to the new contract in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This agreement will enable the smooth transition of specialist engineers to Bristow and is a key milestone towards helping Bristow progress forward in delivering the next generation of SAR operations in Ireland. This most recent announcement follows similarly significant milestones ahead of the SAR contract. Bristow was recently granted its Irish AOC in February 2024, and in early April 2024, its medical teams were cleared to work according to national clinical guidelines.

Bristow HR Director Emma Lawson said: “This framework agreement is a key milestone in the transition to the next generation of Irish SAR operations. These skilled engineers are joining Bristow knowing they have the support of the Company and their union in their continued career delivering a life-saving service.”

The framework agreement was accepted by the group of specialist helicopter engineers represented by Unite. They will begin their transition from the current operator to Bristow this autumn. According to Bristow, this agreement outlines the terms and conditions of their employment, gives engineers a clear view of their employment with the provider, and ensures a clear process for dispute resolution.

Lawson added: “We are looking forward to positive ongoing engagement and cooperation with Unite as we prepare to deliver this critical and life-saving public service for the people of Ireland.”

With this contract now secured, Bristow plans to upskill the engineers to support the new fleet of six specialist AW189 helicopters. As they transition across, all engineers will receive type-rating training on the AW189.
