British Columbia-based Transwest has added an FAA approval, which will allow its vertical reference doors to be fitted to Bell Mediums. The STC, which mirrors the one granted by Transport Canada (TC), allows the vertical reference doors to be fitted to Bell 205A-1, 212, 214B/B1 and 412, 412EP, and 412CF aircraft.

The LH/RH Vertical Reference Doors, along with the previously approved LH/RH Seat Cushion Modification, improve pilot comfort while completing VR missions and crew training by allowing pilots to move further outward, improving visibility with the deep blown window, and improving the line-of-sight view for external loads.

“Our goal was to develop products so a pilot could comfortably perform Vertical Reference missions and not feel broken at the end of their day. With the LH VR Door and the LH Seat Frame, and Cushion Modification, we have provided a more ergonomic position that makes flying these missions more comfortable and less exhausting with reduced vibration. Many pilots have struggled for years. We are excited to provide solutions to improve the Bell Medium Pilot’s comfort in the USA,” explained Doug Maki, Director of Maintenance at Transwest Helicopters.
