Beta Technologies has revealed that its eVTOL Beta Alia aircraft has become the first electric aircraft to land at the famed Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington, DC and the home of Air Force One. The Alia called into Andrews en route to a testing and evaluation deployment with the US Air Force. The flight into the base, as well as onwards, required a range of clearances to operate in the highly restricted airspace in and around the US capital city, which the company said were made possible thanks to the efforts of the FAA, TSA and, critically, the 113th Wing, District of Columbia Air National Guard “Capitol Guardians”, which facilitated access to its home base.
