CHC Helicopter has announced the appointment of SCF Partners’ Tom Burke as its new President and CEO following Jørn Madsen’s decision to step down. Burke will take up his new position on 1 February.

Madsen stepped down from CHC just shy of a year after joining the company in February of 2023, tasked with setting the company on “a new trajectory toward growth, innovation, and continued industry leadership”.

According to CHC, Madsen has, over the last 11 months in his role, worked closely with the senior leadership team to carefully craft a new growth strategy, identify areas to improve operational efficiency, solidify and build on existing success, and tap into new opportunities for CHC’s helicopter services and MRO business.

Commenting on his decision, Madsen said, “We spent considerable time reviewing our operations, market dynamics, and opportunities for growth – and the result is a new, re-focused growth strategy. With the strategic phase of this work complete, I have made the difficult decision to step away from CHC to prioritise my other professional and personal commitments.”

An engineer by training with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Heriot-Watt and a PhD in Robotics from Trinity College Oxford, Burke served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Valaris from 2019 to 2021. Valaris was the result of the 2019 merger of Ensco plc and Rowan Companies plc. Burke arrived as the incumbent President and CEO of Rowan Companies, which he joined in 2011 from LeTourneau Technologies, an oilfield and mining manufacturing company, having been that company’s President and CEO.
