Leonardo has received an order for two AW139 aircraft from helicopter operator Toll Helicopters. The aircraft will join Toll’s fleet of 12 AW139s and will be delivered in the second half of 2023 from Leonardo’s Vergiate final assembly line facility in Italy.

The aircraft will supplement Toll’s fleet of three AW139s, currently supporting pilot and aircrew officer training, utility support to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) exercises and emergency response and disaster relief missions.

In addition, the aircraft will be used to support Toll’s contract delivery across its Crash Response Helicopter Service for the 1st Aviation Regiment in Darwin as well as the Army Commercial Helicopter programme based at the 5th Aviation Regiment in Townsville.

The AW139 helicopter type is suitable for a wide variety of roles, including Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), Search and Rescue (SAR), law enforcement, offshore and defence. Its features, including a searchlight, hoist, cargo hook and provisions for EO/IR equipment, support a range of training and emergency response as well as disaster relief missions.
