Smith Myers has announced the appointment of Andrew Munro as Managing Director, alongside three new appointments to the Board. Munro joined Smith Myers as a Director in 2013 and was appointed to the Board in 2017. Previously, Andrew led Ultra Electronics Electronic Warfare Business in Canada.  Other senior roles have included President at M2 Consulting, and Vice President Electronic Systems at Allen Vanguard.  Prior to entering the Defence and Aerospace Private Sector, Munro had a full operational career in the British Army in Signals Intelligence, Counter Terrorism and Counter IED.

Commenting on his appointment Munro said: “This is an exciting time for our business as our highly talented team continue to build out our ARTEMIS range of airborne cellular sensors, solidifying our position as the market leader. We start 2023 with several new contract awards in UK, Europe and North America, all signposting sustained company growth and ARTEMIS as the product of choice for professional Search & Rescue, Border Protection and Maritime Patrol organisations,”

In addition the company has also appointed Simon Alford as its Director – Software Architecture, Alford has been with company since his recruitment on a “three month contract” in 2003. He has been a key member of the team through the development of three generations of the company’s products. John Gillespie has been named Director Test Systems and Production, Gillespie joined the company in 1997 from BAe and most recently led the Smith Myers Production and Test department through a major transition to AS9100 accreditation. Finally, Nathan Herbert has been named the company’s Director Hardware Development. Herbert began his career with the company as an apprentice in 1998 rising through several technical and customer facing roles.

Founders Tony Smith and Peter Myers remain as Board Directors and continue to work in the business.
