Skyryse, the creator of the SkyOS universal flight operating system, has announced that it has been given a Special Airworthiness Certificate by the FAA for the Skyryse One aircraft.

The Skyryse One is a reimagined R66 helicopter with a modernised and simplified cockpit. The aircraft has been designed to be operated with one hand, with only one control stick and two touch screens. Paired with SkyOS, the developers’ aim is to reduce pilot task saturation with fly-by-wire technology.

“Today’s milestone represents another important step in our mission of making flight simpler and safer for everyone,” said Mark Groden, CEO of Skyryse. “We appreciate the continued cooperation and partnership with the FAA as we work toward our shared goal of eliminating fatalities in aviation.”

The FAA certificate enables Skyryse to continue the development of the Skyryse One in view of obtaining approval and certification for the aircraft. The SkyOS system has been in pre-production aircraft since 2016, undergoing flight tests and enhancements.
