Rotortrade has released its 2026 market report for the Asia-Pacific and Australasia regions. According to the report, although at first glance Asia-Pacific appears to be a high-growth region, in reality it is a market shaped less by expansion than by where each country sits on its maturity curve. Across APAC there is a trend to ageing fleets, there is regulatory variation, and operator capability also varies widely. Accordingly, demand appears to be driven by fleet replacement rather than market growth.

“APAC is not a single market – it is a spectrum of maturity, and the way you sell a helicopter changes significantly depending on where each country sits on that curve,” said Aurelien Blanc, Executive Vide President Rotortrade APAC, Middle East and Africa.

The report points unsurprisingly to Australia and New Zealand as markets with the highest operational maturity, supported by increasing utilisation and the strongest acceptance of pre-owned aircraft. Elsewhere, in China and much of Southeast Asia, market structures remain shaped by regulation, import rules, and government-led procurement which in turn demands a different approach.

Fleet composition reflects this diversity. Turbine operations across APAC are dominated by Airbus, Bell and Leonardo, while piston fleets remain overwhelmingly Robinson, primarily serving training and private ownership.

The report also underscores the uneven development of MRO and financing across the region. Australia and New Zealand benefit from mature maintenance infrastructure, while parts of Southeast Asia remain under-served. In India, the adoption of the Cape Town Convention has unlocked leasing and structured financing, accelerating fleet renewal and reshaping buying behaviour.

Looking ahead, Blanc says that while sustainability is increasing as an issue, it remains secondary to operational and financial realities. Linking with Rotortrade’s one stop shop philosophy, the report predicts that future momentum will come from pre-owned aircraft demand, public-private operating models, and bundled solutions that combine aircraft, maintenance and financing into a single proposition.
