Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC) has announced that the US FAA has granted approvals for the time between overhauls (TBO) on a dozen components on the R66 to be doubled from 2,000 to 4,000 hours. According to RHC, this should result in a 6% operating cost reduction and reduce the hourly overhaul fund requirement for the light turbine by 25%.
The extended service life applies to twelve parts, including five components within the main rotor gearbox. This means fewer overhauls and reduced maintenance expenses for R66 operators. In addition to the retirement life extensions, the FAA has also approved an increase in the calendar life for the R66 main rotor and tail rotor blades from 12 to 15 years.
“This is a game-changer for R66 operators,” said David Smith, President and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company. “By reducing the frequency of maintenance intervals, we’re making the R66 even more cost-effective and reliable. This reinforces our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible ownership experience.”
