QAI Aviation has received FAA approval for the 5G filter Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the EC135, which can optimise helicopter performance in 5G environments by minimising signal interference and avionics functionality.
The FAA released an Airworthiness Directive (AD 2023-11-07), stating the risks associated with radio altimeter interference from 5G transmissions which can impact safe flight and landing, and “requires certain helicopters to revise the Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) to incorporate limitations prohibiting certain operations requiring radio altimeter data when operating in contiguous USA airspace.”
QAI Aviation plans to roll out the installation for other helicopter types in the future.
