Robinson Helicopter Company has delivered an R66 Police Helicopter to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) in Florida.

The PCSO’s new aircraft is the first R66 Police Helicopter to be configured with a Wescam MX-10 EO/IR imaging system, including an HD infrared sensor. The MX-10 system is widely used by homeland security and law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the PCSO’s R66 is equipped with a Spectrolab SX-7 Starsun searchlight, an Aerocomputers UC-6000 digital mapping system, an auxiliary fuel tank, an impact-resistant windshield, Garmin’s G500H TXi 1060 flight display with synthetic vision, and NVG-rated instruments for a future NVG certification.

Polk County is located in central Florida and cover around 2,000 square miles. The PCSO provides air support for every law enforcement agency in the county, as well as assisting surrounding counties. Its aviation unit flies an average of 1,100 hours each year.

“Having a robust aviation unit is critical to our mission of keeping people safe,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “We are thrilled to add the Robinson R66 turbine helicopter to our aviation fleet. Not only is this aircraft a great asset to law enforcement, it allows us to cost-effectively support and protect our citizens better than other options out there.”
