Norwegian operator Lufttransport RW AS has ordered three new AW189s from Leonardo at VERTICON for its offshore operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The company operates a fleet of 17 Leonardo aircraft, 12 of which are AW189s including the new orders, with this announcement following on from last year’s VERTICON news that the operator had placed orders for two additional 189s.
The AW189 is an ideal aircraft for harsh conditions, being the only aircraft in its class to have a Full Ice Protection System certified for use in Europe, the United States, and Canada. The main transmission can also run for 50 minutes without oil in the event of an emergency. Todaym over 170 AW189s have been ordered and 100 are in service.
