Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, has issued a type certificate for Russian Helicopters’ new Ka-62 medium-twin helicopter.

The Ka-62 flight test programme began in 2017. It involved three prototypes that performed 434 flights between them, which amounted to about 700 hours of flight time.

Rostec, Russian Helicopters’ state-owned parent company, stated: “Obtaining a type certificate for the Ka-62 is an important milestone for the Russian helicopter industry.

“Currently, the fuselage of the first commercial Ka-62 has been assembled at Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company in the Far East. Starting next year, we plan to launch full-scale commercial production of this helicopter and supply it to Russian operators.

“In 2022-2024, we will work on further expanding the helicopter’s capabilities through certification of optional equipment – an external load sling, onboard hoist, medical module and anti-icing system.”

The Ka-62 has a range of 700 km, a maximum speed of 310 km/h and a maximum take-off weight of 6,800 kg. The multirole aircraft can transport up to 15 passengers, while for cargo flights, it can carry up to 2 tonnes in the cabin or 2.5 tonnes as an external load.
