A working group led by Embraer subsidiary Eve Urban Air Mobility has begun developing a concept of operations (CONOPS) for the integration of urban air mobility (UAM) services into Brazilian airspace, starting in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Under Eve’s coordination, the initiative will involve Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) working together to assess infrastructure and air traffic management solutions with the aim of enabling safe UAM operations.

In addition, the working group has members from organisations such as Helisul Aviation, one of the largest helicopter operators in Latin America; Skyports, a company that designs, builds and operates vertiports; Flapper, an independent platform for on-demand flights; and EDP, one of the largest companies in the energy sector; as well as many others.

As part of the CONOPS initiative, the partners expect to carry out a test in Rio de Janeiro before the end of this year with conventional helicopters being used to simulate Eve’s future eVTOL aircraft.

André Stein, Eve’s CEO, said: “We want to explore new and practical concepts to facilitate the safe introduction of the urban air mobility industry in Brazil. In this initial stage, we will describe the main characteristics and requirements of the ecosystem, from the perspective of the users, partners, entities and government departments involved. According to concept evolution, we will conceive how to enable the purpose of democratising urban air mobility in a safe, economical and accessible way.”
