Former Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll APM has been appointed as a Director to the Board of LifeFlight Commercial Ltd. LifeFlight Commercial launched in 2018 as a profit-for-purpose entity to channel much-needed funds into LifeFlight’s core mission.

Carroll brings significant operational experience in emergency management and has led the QFES and QPS response through multiple natural disasters, most significantly the Covid pandemic.

As a leader, she has influenced the policing and emergency management sector and provided guidance through her involvement as Chair and member of numerous national boards. In 2014, she was hand-picked to reform and lead the newly formed Queensland Fire and Emergency Services before returning to QPS in 2019.

Carroll is a recipient of the Australian Police Medal, holds an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from James Cook University, and is a recipient of the Sir James Wolfensohn Public Service Scholarship to study at the prestigious Kennedy Business School at Harvard University.

Carroll said the decision to join LifeFlight came as the organisation focuses on new strategic contracts with government, counter-disaster agencies and defence. “LifeFlight is a proven leader in aeromedicine, and I look forward to providing support to the Board as opportunities arise and we further develop partnerships, both in Australia and abroad.”

LifeFlight Commercial Chair John Lewis welcomed the appointment and said Carroll’s experience would provide added depth as the organisation continues to soar. “Katarina Carroll is one of the most decorated and adept leaders in emergency services in the country, and we are delighted to have her join the LifeFlight Commercial Board,” he said, “The next few years will see investment in LifeFlight Commercial’s operations to build the business and capability so we can continue to compete on the international stage. It’s an exciting time for LifeFlight and the sector more broadly.”
