Recoil Aerospace Inc. (Recoil) has been granted approval of an STC that will allow fitting of its Tsunami AFSS tank system to H225s by Brazil’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (ANAC) and Morocco’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC). Adding these approvals to the US, Canadian, Republic of Korea, and Australian approvals already received.

The company said that the timing of the approval will still allow tanks to be fitted during the current South American fire season and, of course, means that tanks can be installed ahead of the start of the Moroccan season later this year.

“This approval is vital for assisting Brazil, Chile and other countries’ fire suppression efforts at the height of fire season,” said Recoil President and pilot Joseph Rice talking about the approvals. “Our rapid installation combined with high volume, fixed tank water delivery leads to maximum fire suppression effectiveness.”

The company said that the under-fuselage mounted retractable tank system provides a number of performance improvements compared with bucket-based water delivery systems and allows the retention of the standard landing gear.

In addition to the work for the Super Pumas, Recoil is also working on an FAA STC approval, which will allow the Tsunami system to be fitted to UH-60/S-70i Black Hawks, which it is hoping to secure in time to allow fitting for the 2025 Northern Hemisphere fire season. It is also working on an internally fitted tank system for the Black Hawk platform.
