Beijing General Aviation Co has placed an order for two Leonardo AW189 helicopters, which will be operated by the Beijing Police. Delivery of the first aircraft is expected to take place in the first half of next year, with the second due to follow in early 2023.

The order is Leonardo’s first for the AW189 in the Chinese civil helicopter market. The two new aircraft will join seven other Leonardo helicopters – three AW139s, three AW109 Powers and one AW109 GrandNew – that are already flown by the Beijing Police.

The AW189s will strengthen the Beijing Police’s law enforcement, search and rescue, and firefighting capabilities. They will be equipped with a wide range of mission equipment, including a searchlight, a rescue hoist, tactical radios, a weather/search radar, a cargo hook and firefighting equipment.

According to Leonardo, it has sold more than 200 civil helicopters of various types to commercial and public service operators in China.
